Dexter's ideal home
Dexter is looking for a strictly adult home without any visiting children. He is house trained and an be left alone for a few hours although he has chewed various items that have been left within his reach. Dexter needs to lose some weight and is currently on pain relief for cruciate disease. He will need multiple meets a the centre and a gradual introduction to his new home environment, starting with home visits and overnight stays before adoption.

Dexter is handsome boy but he needs a very particular home. He is a confident chap who will try to get in people's cars and even on the bus if the doors open! He has been very friendly with everyone at the centre and is taking Dogs Trust life in his stride, spending his days relaxing on his bed. Dexter loves a stroke and when he's had enough, he'll happily take himself away. He has been happy to greet other dogs and will walk with calm ones but he does enjoy any prolonged sniffing on his back end. Dexter has shown some aggression during the last five months in his home. He has begun to get stressed when he recognises the bedtime routine and has tried to prevent his family from going upstairs. Adopters will receive support and advice on this issue from our training and behaviour team before Dexter goes home. Dex has also chewed non-food items in the home and will swallow them if you try to take them from him, resulting in a couple of trips to the vet. His new family will need to teach him a "drop" cue to avoid this. Dexter likes to chase small furries and has eaten live chicks before, so he will need to be monitored around wildlife and any small pets he may encounter.
