About This Dog for Adoption
Cooper's ideal home
Cooper is a bright and energetic one year old Cocker Spaniel looking for a patient and understanding adult-only home to help him feel safe and confident in the world. This clever boy already knows his basics, including sit, wait, and drop and he loves to use his brain. Like many spaniels, Cooper thrives when he has a job to do, so he would be happiest in an active home where he can enjoy activities such as scent work, hoopers, or other engaging training games. Cooper can be a bit of a worry wart, especially around new people and unfamiliar handling. Because of this, he currently wears a muzzle for vet visits and grooming, as he finds these situations quite overwhelming. He will need adopters who are willing to go at his pace and continue building his confidence through positive, reward-based training. New people can be scary for Cooper, so any potential adopters will need to visit him a few times at the center to build a bond and gain his trust. Once he feels safe, his affectionate and loyal personality really starts to shine.
Cooper has previously lived in a home where he was housetrained and not left alone for long periods. He may need a little refresher settling into a new routine, and his leaving time will need to be built up gradually. Due to finding other dogs overwhelming, Cooper will need to be the only pet in the home. With the right guidance, he can continue learning how to feel more comfortable around dogs at a distance.
Could you be Cooper's perfect match?
Cooper is looking for a committed home that understands his worries but sees his huge potential. With time, patience, and plenty of enrichment, he will make a wonderfully loyal and rewarding companion. Cooper does have an ongoing medical condition that the center will happily talk to potential new owners about.
