It is breaking my heart to be posting Rosie for adoption, but after very serious consideration we do not think we provide the best home for her anymore. She is a
working breed, and I will only consider serious people who will fulfil her breed requirements. An ideal home will be someone with a very large garden/access to private space, preferably in a working home. I’ve personally had Rosie since she was 9 months, and whilst I haven’t worked her as a
gundog, I have tried to fulfil her needs in other ways. She definitely would suit scent work or potential shooting/beating but please note she hasn’t yet been exposed to this. Aside from this, she still will happily go on long walks playing retrieval games. However, my home is no longer a best fit for her as I’m currently expecting and I will lay out we have recently had a change in behaviour which will require someone experienced with the time to iron them out. This includes reactive behaviour to other dogs, particularly smaller dog. This does include a bite history (dogs only, no bite towards people). So, with a small child on the way, I cannot risk this and do not have the time available needed to solve this and continue the training post pregnancy. She has never shaken another dog, and it’s always happened because of the poor behaviour of another owner not controlling their dog. Rosie is able to wait and sit to the side to allow another dog to pass, it’s just unfortunate that other dogs have caused her reactivity. Rosie does not get along with cats, and all small animals will trigger her prey drive which is breed driven. She does live with another dog who we’ve had since a puppy, and she has been known to get along with our friends dogs but this has taken time. Whilst I would prefer her to go to a home without dogs, I would consider a home with other dogs present in the right environment e.g. a proper working home. I wouldn’t also rehome to a family with young children due to her high energy and to ensure she gets the time she truly deserves. On a more positive note, she is ball driven rather than food. So her reward when outside is fetching a ball, but don’t get me wrong she loves raw natural treats at home. We’ve had her on a combination diet of dry and raw which is going well and helps maintain a good weight on her. She does extremely well for a cocker switching off at home and being left alone for a decent duration e.g., 4-5 hours at a time. I don’t believe a dog should be left any longer than this. She has historically has been crate trained and still sees this as a safe space, but more recently she now has free roam of a separate room in our house. Overall, she is one lovely dog and still young and very much trainable. Very affectionate to her people, loves getting under the blanket and having a cuddle. Rosie’s favourite thing is also swimming and being in the sea! It’s one activity we have found tires her out the most. For the more serious side, I have included a price to prevent time wasters, and to also ensure the right person has the financial stability to give her the best home. So, serious people please only message, and ideally I would like proof of the environment she would be going into as well as first introductory meet. She will not go to just anyone and I am in no rush to part ways with her. Please do not waste my time, you must be in a position to take on a dog now after serious thought and not decide later that it’s something you want to do after the summer holidays, or a family visit, or whatever it might be.
